Hugo Spritz Mocktail Recipe

non alcoholic Hugo spritz mocktail recipe

Ingredients You'll Need

Non-Alcoholic Elderflower Cordial or Elderflower Liqueur
Elderflower is what gives a Hugo Spritz its signature floral, lightly sweet flavor. You can use either a non-alcoholic elderflower cordial (my fave here) or alcohol-free elderflower liqueur in this recipe. Cordials tend to be a bit sweeter, so I recommend starting with the smaller amount listed below and adding more to taste.

Fresh Mint
Fresh mint is a must for this refreshing summer mocktail. Gently muddle the mint leaves if you wish before adding them to the glass to help release their natural oils and fragrance.

Non-Alcoholic Prosecco or Sparkling Wine
A traditional Hugo Spritz is made with Prosecco, so an alcohol-free Prosecco (like this one) is my favorite option for recreating the classic cocktail experience. If you can't find one, a dry non-alcoholic sparkling wine works beautifully as well. You can also substitute sparkling white grape juice or even a crisp lemon-flavored mineral water for a lighter variation.

Soda Water or Plain Seltzer
A splash of soda water adds the perfect bubbles to keep it light, crisp, and incredibly refreshing. Any brand of plain sparkling water or seltzer will work - I do love San Pellegrino though!

  • 6-8 mint leaves

  • 1.5 oz non-alcoholic elderflower liqueur (my personal recommendation here)

  • 3 oz non-alcoholic Prosecco for a more dry taste (love this one) -or- white sparkling grape juice for a bit sweeter

  • 1 oz soda water or sparkling water

  • Ice

  • Garnish (optional): fresh lemon slice and mint

Instructions

  • Place the mint in your glass along with the elderflower liqueur, then muddle until the mint is just bruised. Do this very gently and carefully to break the stem of the wine glass! Just a couple gentle presses is fine. Tip: if you don't have a muddler, use the handle of a wooden spoon.

  • Fill your glass with ice, then add the non-alcoholic Prosecco (or alternative) and soda water.

  • Stir gently, then taste. Add a little more elderflower or dash of lemon juice if you wish, stir again, then garnish and enjoy!
